2025 AGM weekend
At the end of March 2025 a breach occurred just above Bosley locks on the Macclesfield Canal.
This, coupled with the two breaches that happened at the beginning of January 2025 (Little Bollington on the Bridgewater Canal and lock 11W on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal),
means that access by boat to Stalybridge from the midlands and points south was only possible by extremely tortious routes (Rochdale or Leeds & Liverpool - but both of these suffer restrictions due to water shortages)
or an expensive option (Manchester Ship Canal).
As one of the reasons for holding the Rally at Stalybridge was to fill the town centre moorings with boats, the Rally organisers agreed that our best course of action was to postpone the
Stalybridge Rally to 2026.
In place of the full Rally, we arranged an alternative venue for the Register's AGM and some of the activities planned for the Rally.
The location was Willington, on the eastern end of the Trent & Mersey Canal, with some activities held in
The Rising Sun pub.
Our Friday activites were:
Craft session Quilling; the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs
Register AGM
Presentation by Mick & Carole Golds of the Erewash Canal Preservation & Development Association, covering the past, present and future of Derbyshire canals
On Saturday the activites were:
Craft session greetings cards and present boxes, using the designs created in the Quilling craft session
Technical forum
Where There’s Brass by Tom Kitching. Those attending unanimously agreed that this was one of the best, if not, the best ever, evening 'rally' entertainment.
Those of you not there missed a treat. See Tom's website for future performances.
